Default lt1 383

looking at buying this 383 on here:
383 LT1 Scat crank & rods, forged Probe -15cc pistons. 2bolt block. Has 6500 miles on it. Had the normal cleaning, decking, new frost plugs, etc. Clevite bearings throughout. Internally balanced and blueprinted.

and I was wondering what the best set of heads would work with the lt1 383? he said he ran le3's on it. But I was wondering what is the cheapest set of heads that i could go with? Looking to spend under 700 if possible...

That -15cc piston is going to give you about 10.5:1 compresion, which is low for a lt1..
You would want a -5cc piston to get it around 12:1.

you might be able to find some used LE or AI heads for around $700.

Forged crank or cast? No stroker should use a cast crank, IMO.

IF your looking to spend $700 there is a guy on here selling LE1 heads...sprayed z is his name.

Secondly, I would not get it if it has a cast crank or NON forged pistons!

Isn't the stock compression on a lt1 10.5:1? Is that low of compression going to hurt anything?

the crank and pistons are forged

Would I hurt anything by running stock lt1 heads for a couple of months until I could save up more money and buy a new set of le2 heads/cam?

I know am I am going to loose horsepower but this car is going to be a weekend driver... I'd be happy If i could get 325hp out now until I can get the set up the way i want it with le2 heads/cam and eventually a turbo...

I highly doubt any reputable builder would use "blueprinted" to describe a motor with a cast crank.

Sounds to me like you have alot of homework left to do. If you're planning on adding a turbo later, your shortblock needs to be built for it NOW. An engine isn't something you can "build as you go." The successful strong engines are built by people who research, do their homework, and build towards one goal. Research what these people have done.

My suggestion - be patient and do everything all at once. It makes way more sense in so many ways.

I know what your looking at, and I would suggest that if you already have a running engine in your car that you wait till you can save up and get a complementing top end to go with you END goals. like RamAir95 said ... do it once

No one ever has the money to do everything they want all at once, but in case of a turbo build, that's where you have to draw the line and wait it out.

Be patient and wait until you have the money to do everything at once.
