Default low voltage/idle.. & hesitates

well i replaced my optispark distributor @ around 148K...

as well as :

timing set & chain
gaskets & seals
ac delco spark plugs & wires
ICM & coil
Fuel Pump
GM waterpump & 160* thermo
ac delco optispark distributor & opti harness

drove fine for ~ 3k miles (its @ 151,xxx at the moment)..til my radiator cap came off and soaked my engine bay.

it took out my distributor ...
purchased a used one of here for $25 the optical sensor was guaranteed to work but not the cap and rotor.

i bought it for the mean while becuase i didnt feel like buying a $300+ new one again @ the moment.

i went ahead and installed it as well as pulley tensioner..

it starts up instantly but the battery voltage stays at the border line of the red.

the RPMS get real low @ idle i rev it to about 800-900 to pick the voltage up.
it will run but when i take off it hesitates on 2nd gear.

any ideas??? could it be the cap and rotor??

i

probably a bad alternator. if your alternator isn't putting out enough power your not going to supply the ignition system with the power it needs hence you will have a weak spark. pull the alternator and have it tested or replace it and you will most likely solve your problem.

i tested it with a DVOM, as well as the autozone test.

it passed but could it still be the voltage regulator inside the alternator??

doubt it if it passed the test. obviously something is not right. check your ground wires. also we had a similar problem on a 92 gmc and it turned out to be a fusible link. im not sure if the camaro has one.

i dont want to have you chasing problems though. id grab a voltmeter and start checking stuff.

maybe some one else will chime in that might know more.

That's definitely no good. Is that the optispark harness connector? What year is your car?

Also, have you verified the accuracy of the factory gauge with a DVM?

ummm thats the harness to your opti its called the pigs tail. Im having similar issues i replaced two optis in one week still bad results i chnaged my coil my icm my plugs and wires my battery sometimes reads low and when i give it gas the battery voltage will raise. My car boggs when you hit the gas. Then it violently back fires and sputters after replacing two optis actually three the first went out in a couple of months then the other two just isnt properly working so now im all out of ideas and confused bro Sometimes my starter dosnt get enough juice from the batery so it will just stop turning in the middle of the crank immediately then it gets juice all of a sudden and turn on. In idle it revs fine but when i put it in drive and go wide open throttle it backfires and sputters. HHEEEEHHHHHHH long weekend for me

I put in aa new icm iac coild plugs wire and opti three already. It takes me an hr to replace the opti I have done it so much its become to easy. It maybe fuel pump related I ran the car low on gas many times which didn't have gas to keep the pump cool so I feel sever fiuel cut I will swap it out soon but it sounds like your pump went to fuel pump hjeaven man if you need help with the install or any advice email me at aaronrowan53@yahoo.com
