1st- 2nd gear synchro or shift fork?
if my rpms are either bit high it grinds very badly going into 2nd gear. and sometimes it doesnt go straight into 2nd gear. i figured the synchro was gone but could the shift fork also be bent? im ordering a rebuild kit for the transmission but it doesnt come with the shift fork.

what year is your car ? sound like common on every t56, second gear weak. do some search and decise your self for a rebuilder. sponsor here is a good rebuilder . but do a search and wait for every one else comment.

if you get it rebuild by the mechanic, ask him to buy the kit for you, cause if something happent, he the one need to fix it. my friend been in your situtation and he bought a kit from some where, and let a shop rebuild it for him, few month later, it fail and they blame on the part he order. so make sure he get the part and rebuild it himself.

are you sure theres some one qualified to work on it in your area? I tried to get mine done locally first but quickly realized no one had any experience with the t56, the top trans place in my area(90% auto trans) didn't want to touch it and wanted me to get a reman. t56 for $1200(not including labor), at the next place they tried telling me I didn't have a reverse synchro when I told them it was blown along w/ 2nd, and etc etc. finally I shipped it out and had it beefed up for a little more than what the 1st place wanted for a reman. stocker.
personally, I'd send it out and deal with the down time. your shift fork should be fine unless your really hard on it shifting, the rebuild I had done came w/ all new steel shiftforks, also if theres more things wrong with it and you have it done locally you'll be dealing w/ more downtime than if you had just sent it out, or worse it could go un-noticed. Mine needed a new 2nd, 6th and reverse gear

yeah the previous owner was hard on my trnas as well, I'd just get a new fork to be on the safe side, D&D has them for $19> http://www.ddperformance.com/shop/pr...th=110_103_119
