LT1/Jeep Wrangler fuel rail issue
I've run a carbureted LT1 in a Jeep Wrangler for about a year. I've recently taken it down with the intention of restoring it to EFI fuel delivery. My LT1 came from an F body, so it was designed for fuel to flow throught he fuel rail, to be pressure regulated, then returned to the tank. The Wrangler -- a TJ model -- does not circulate fuel, but it does send fuel up one line to the engine at 40PSI. I have blocked off one end of the fuel rail, and intend to use the jeep fuel pump, but I am concerned about the retention time for the fuel on top of the engine; that is, whereas it was designed to continually flow cool fuel through the rail, fuel will now stand in place on top of the engine except at high throttle settings. QUESTION: For those of you who have used LT1's in other vehicles, how did youdeal with this problem? thanks!
you need to have a return, and 40 psi for fuel pressure wont cut it, more like 55psi or higher if you have a cam, and other mods. there is a company called rock valley antique auto parts ( www.rockvalleyantiqueautoparts.com ) that will modify your gas tank, and put a camaro sending unit in. im sure there are other places that'll do it. basically its just a matter of running a feed and return, iused some braided fuel line you can get in summit or jegs, and some AN fittings. its not that difficult.
