I think the OEM has "cheerleaders" because it has demonstrated time & again to be the wisest choice. My factory optispark lasted over 100K miles. I don't hear of many aftermarket options making that claim. The only alternative I've heard of that may be better, and doesn't reconfigure the ignition system, is the Dynaspark, but it's quite a bit more expensive.
