Spin it til it blows, then back off a little...lol, jk.

Find out were you peak power is, that will determine what your shift rpm should be. Most cars will carry a little after peak power, so you need to see where your power starts dropping off.

if you cant get to a dyno you can get a better guesstimate at the track. try adjusting shift points and see where it picks up or loses mph. a shift light will help a lot better than trying to watch the tach especially if its the factory tach.

It'd drive me crazy not to know where power peak is. I'd get it dynoed. It is crucial to know where to shift and what tire/gear combo would work out best.

I say between 6500-6800. I shifted my 383 at 6800 with similar cam specs.

Dyno graph! As a general rule of thumb, you want to set it up to shift at peak power, dropping to peak torque. That will get you roughly in a good ballpark. When programming my shift points we were aiming to only have a 900-1000 RPM drop on upshifts, going down the track at WOT. Coverter selection is huge here. Think I made peak at 6700, and had it shifting at 6850-ish.

Valvetrain plays into this, have a crappy valvetrain that floats just past peak like a lot do and you are going to want to shift just shy of that. Have a good valvetrain where power slowly declines after peak and you might find it best to shift 500rpms past to keep you at the top of the power curve the longest.

In Datamaster you can look at the mph graphed and you can see if acceleration flattens out from shifting too high or if you drop to too low an rpm after shift and it flattens out from that.

You won't notice it during burnouts when there's no load on the car. In upper gears it will feel like you hit the limiter though.
