If the rod broke I would contact Scat and see what they say. But, like you already said, it's more likely a fastener problem.

No. I've got way too much going on right now. I'm thinking about pulling the valve covers this weekend. I really hope that I can save a good part of it. Lot's of pretty things inside that motor!

Russian mail order bride?? haha I know the feeling. The good looking girls are crazy and most of the nice girls are fat and ugly. Tough to find a good one.

OP good luck with the new build.

I just got out of a similar situation, I had a lot of good parts in a block but I was sold some defective parts and had some bad machining/assembly of the block. The engine made over 400rwhp while running on 7.5 cylinders but overall it felt like crap. One day I got fed up with it and dropped it out of the car and tore into the engine to fix all the oil leaks and other problems with it. I found 10-15 things wrong with the engine. Some were simple others were as bad as an improperly installed timing chain that was about to fail.

I went to three different machine shops in my area, one of them I have put an engine through and gotten mediocre work back, they made a few very ignorant mistakes that came from laziness so I went to another shop who's machinist has one foot in the grave and does questionable work not because he is lazy or anything, but he just isn't the man he used to be.

So I waited and asked more of my friends, some pretty good drag race guys, and a few dirt track racers. Finally I have found just an awesome machine shop, they do about 90% of their work on SBC/BBC and when I brought a 95 LT1 Corvette block in there they were just enthusiastic to work on it. They do LS every once in a while but most of the people around here kind of skipped the LT1 stuff so they were sonic testing the cylinder walls and flow testing my Dart Pro 1s on a SF-1020 just for their own info.

I know I don't have a crazy internet post count or anything so I'll probably get ignored, but if you seriously need an excellent shop and you don't mind coming on down to NW Arkansas to check it out, I think you will be very pleased. PM me if you want to know anything about the shop or whatever.
