I am running the Melling Select 10554 standard volume pump with the GM white spring. I think most agree the white spring raises the maximum pressure to 70-75 pounds or so. I also spin my 355 to 6.7K RPM. I have not detected any abnormal wear on the drive gear with this setup.

There are some that have stated that the spring that comes with the 10554 pump is the same spec as the GM white spring. I cant confirm this but your engine builder can rig up a contraption to test the max pressure of an oil pump.

I am running the stock pan and I have that funky negative pressure spike at 5K RPM. It drops then bounces back up instantly. Has something to do with the oil sloshing around and some folks who encountered this have installed the Moroso pan to eliminate it. IMO, the stock pan works but its a crapshoot as to whether you will have the negative spike issue.

Get the billet aluminum oil pump drive housing from Shon Herron Performance, they're a vendor here that should help keep you from shearing the drive teeth off. Also a HV oilpump is a good idea if you install an external engine oil cooler and lines.

Their billet housing does absolutely nothing to protect the teeth of the gear. It only prevents the pump drive housing "arm" from breaking.

More than likely I'm going to go with either the Canton or Moroso 7 quart oil pan to avoid any oil pressure drops that I've been hearing about along with the 10% HV Melling.

Was thinking about this. $155 is pretty damn pricey though and from what I've seen on Herron's web site it doesn't even come with the gear.

Not to mention it probably won't fit. It was .010" too big on my motor and .008" too big on a friends motor. We had to sand the crap out of them to get them to fit.

No, the $155 gold brick they sell you. It is only the housing - no gear is included.

I knew the gear isn't included. I was just wondering what didn't fit. The gear on the housing or the housing on the block?

you could always go to a single plain intake with a distributor hole and run a dummy distributor/oilpump drive

HV pump here... if you're sucking the pan dry either run an accusump, smooth out your oil drainback passages, run thinner oil, or run more oil. I have a canton pan, I add 6 quarts at the oil change, so figure 6.5ish in the motor. Had oil pressure fluctuation with that stock half *** screen, so I put a 30 dollar milodon tray in it. So far no oil pressure issues

The housing does not fit into the block hole.
