Default 10-10-10 Chevy Fest

Had a good weekend up at the track.......brought the car up saturday morning and started running........made two 10.3x passes at over 131mph but I couldn't keep the car straight there was something wrong in the new manual rack and I almost wrecked the car on the high end on the second pass so i just put it on the trailer. Saturday night I pulled the car home and swapped my power rack back in and just looped the lines on it........I came back out sunday morning and made a 10.33 @ 130 first pass off the trailer, car drove perfect. Then I went 10.26 @ 131 followed by a 10.29 @ 131 then two hours later a 10.31 @ 130......the car ran consistant 10.30's all day and never dipped below 130mph. Ran great!!!! Gonna send the manual rack back and see if I can put the price towards a set of strange race brakes. I gotta mess with the suspension more and get it to hook a bit harder.....I put the timing back in the car on launch and now its being a bit unruly it either chatters or spins out of the hole a bit. I loosened up the front shocks a bit to try and transfer some weight and the thing pulled about a 30" wheelstand on me.....apparently somebody has a pic of it Im waiting to get it now lol..... I'll get it straightened out next week and hopefully we'll see some 10.10's before the year is out.

Heres a pic of the time slip......

Lower your 1-2 shift by 400 rpm and see if it picks up.

Mr Ed has told me numerous times this is the quickest way down the track for a 4L60E car.

Mike,
How long of a haul is it for you to Cecil County, MD? You could get your NINE before the year is out!
Mike Harris and I are making a trip over there Oct 22-23 (Fri-Sat), weather permitting, for some record runs. He'll be looking for 10.3-10.4 with his NA stroker Impala, and I'm pulling for a 10.9x in mine.

You need to add the bumpsteer kit along with the manual rack or it will do what you are describing. It's only a few bucks but it will make a world of difference. Who did you buy the rack from?

i think its about 35 total for the front.........its all a reduction on spinning weight thou.....everything being replaced is spinning except for the caliper........plus my stock brakes are dragging i think the calipers are no good......if you spin the wheel as hard as you can it makes a half a revolution and stops....if i try that on my gto it will spin for like 10 seconds

^^^ exactly other then the drop in rotational weight, the most it helps is the dragging. all stock brakes drag somewhat. race brakes from what i hear help A LOT because it eliminates all the drag. mike u gonna do the rears also?

UPDATE.....

Well i got the race brakes installed and mannnn are they sweet!!! But.......now i've got another issue.....the car seems to be breaking up under a load i keep getting popping out the exhaust.....I went over the valve train and everything looks good......I did notice however that the Wideband on the XFI is reading very irradicaly and im thinking this could be causing it. Gonna start troubleshooting tonight.......car went 10.40 @ 130 yesterday popping and missing down the track.......

Wouldn't it suck if everything came together perfectly at one time.....lol! We'd have nothing left to do, no more runs to make!

I have suspension settings to figure out; just missed my 10 sec runs this past weekend naively hoping that good track prep and good air would do it.
Both were there, but now with hitting the tires as hard as I ever have, even on a good track, it's unloading the rears after picking up the front.

You'll figure this one out quickly and have some glory runs over the next few weeks

yea i think its the Wideband on the xfi.....i noticed it was reading very irradicaly i think that may be it...........also pat if you are unloading the tires too quick try moving the instant center on the car forward...i had this same issue.........what style suspension is on the impalas i've neva looked at them??

and I believe that would entail moving the rear mount of the LCA's higher, which is exactly what I'm in the process of doing. Thanks for helping to confirm my thoughts
The Impala rear consists of upper and lower control arms, 4-link style, but with the uppers running outward from the top of the center section to the frame at about a 45 deg angle, negating the need for a panhard bar.
I had relocated the rear mount of the LCA's downward by about 3 inches a couple of years ago, on the advice of some folks who seemed to have the 60 foot game figured out, and it was fine for the stock motor and high 1.5x / low 1.6x 60's. This motor and converter was fine last Fall and this Spring with new tires, but I have just 50 runs on these tires, and I just don't think they would have gone away that quickly. I've also done some timing tweaks, causing it to hit them harder.
