i run a vigilante 3400 with lockup. i'm a cam only lt1 car and the car pulls 1.7 shorts. i love this converter! better than any other i have had. it hits really really hard and is basically pointless to nail it from a stop light on street tires

just to make sure I got everything covered here's my situation my transmission went out ab there's oil leaking from the back of my engine(not intake manifold).
I have bought already
transmission rebuild kit
trans oil cooler
tranny mount
rear main seal
torque converter

does anyone have anything else I should add to this list while I'm doing this stuff?

Exactly its a great race only highh rpm converter....
Mike, Before I tried this 8" ATI in my car, I had the same impression. I know they vary depending on how ATI builds them for each application, but trust me this thing is NOT sloppy feeling. Mine is considered a 4200 stall, and it's very snappy in my car. I've driven LT1's with 4200-4400 stall 9.5" converters and they felt spongier.
Don't get me wrong though. I am NOT recommending anything like it for the OP. I still say Yank SS3600 for him.

.......lop off the end of your input shaft?????....never heard of that. I just programmed the lockup out of my PCM; no other changes.
This ATI is actually a bit tight for optimum ET's with my setup. Shifting at 7000-7100, it pulls down to 5400 in 3rd gear. I have a Yank PT4400 (9.5") that Dave just built for me that I hope to try out, that should keep the revs to 6000-6200 after the shift.

dont mean to hijack here......

Yea i called ATI Pat and they said that with the race master I'd have to cut the end of my input shaft off...he said the lockup spline will bottom out in the converter and cause damage if not........plus the 4200 is wayy to low for mine I got a 5000 9.5" in it now and ATI wants to build a 5700 for it lol...a 5400rpm shift extension would murder me lol.....they said they'd build it so it would brake to 5000 flash to 6200 on the launch and shift at 7900 and drop to 7000 in the next gear...it would definatly make it move out like a SOB but bye bye street car.....

Sounds like a different style ATI converter. Mine is a Treemaster. Despite it being non-lockup, I expect I'll find it's a better street converter than the looser Yank I'm going to try.

I agree with most of them a good quality converter will be more efficient you can loose 40-100 dep on app. From a crappy converter go with fti, yank, circle d,ati those guys are on the top of the converter food chain for a reason I also had a 2800 with some bolt ons was ok went to a 3800 was in love 60' went down and 3 tenths as well now fully built 4200 I'm in the sweet spot plus a good comv company willl restall for free for future mods and no matter what get a cooler do a redundant line from out the radiator to the cooler then back to trans for a street car in hot weather trans will stay about 30% cooler under hard load
