What you heat range you'll need and where you need to gap will be determined by your power level and compression ratio. Gregrob is pointing you in the right direction, probably. You surely don't need a 'hotter' plug. If anything you might need colder heat range (higher number is colder). NGK TR55 (heat range 5) at stock gap of .050" or slightly less will be fine if you're under 11:1 SCR and your crank HP is less than 375. Higher (colder) heat range of no more than 6 NA & above 11:1 and perhaps 7 if you're going to spray regularly.

Power & CR?

Stick with a good HR 5 plug (NGK TR55 is a trusted plug). Rule of thumb for gap is to close it .004" for every 50 additional CHP above stock. So that's .050" - .010" = .040" gap.

Looks like the OP got his answer so I hope no one minds if I do a little hijacking. Since we're learning about plugs, let's learn a little about plug wires. What are the best wires and how much difference does size make? I believe mine are 7.5mm. I'm running a TR55 plug as well. Based on my sig, should I invest in some 8.5mm wires?

I've seen some guys that run theirs over the valve covers, especially with headers. What's the benefit of this and where do you find them? Is it a kit made for the LT1 with longer wires?

Resistance per foot is a key spec with wires- less is better, generally. The thickness of the insulation doesn't make a whole lot of difference. Larger than 8mm is hard to route in the stock location (crowded clips) and OTVC wires are pretty much a cut to length and crimp your own proposition. I run my 8mm Accel 9000s in the stock location (going with different wires next time but these aren't that bad). It's a little tight in the stock looms behind the PS pump. I use a couple of DEI boot sleeves on #6 and #3 as added insurance. http://www.designengineering.com/cat.../protect-boots

MSD 8.5mm is probably what I'll try next, in stock location. OTVC wires look unsightly, IMHO.

ive ran TR 55s and had good luck with them. i ran the MSDs and had good luck with them on all of my motors. As far as OTVC goes its a way out of routing the passenger side wires behind the accessories. other than that there is no real benefit, the people ive seen that ran them always wanted to get rid of them.
