Default Injector size for my current build?

I'm currently putting together a budget engine for my car to get it back on the road. I've been doing a lot of searching about injector size and it appears that 30lb injectors would be just right for my current build. The thing is I already have a set of 42lb green top SVO injectors setting on the shelf that I was going to use on a future 383 build but the stock engine gave up before I got too far on that project. My question is would the 42lb injectors be too large for my current setup? Would I be better off getting a set of 30lb injectors or running the 42lb ones I already have?

Current build:
-Rebuilt stock bottom end
-Ported heads by a local porter (still haven't gotten final flow numbers)
-AI 226-234 110 LSA Cam
-Full bolt-ons, CAI, headers, catback ect.....

Is there any negative results running an injector that is larger than needed?

You can use the 42lb injectors as long as the tune is set up for them.

I'm running 32lb racetronix with my setup. With that said save your $$ and run the 42's.

Ok, thanks guys. I was hoping to get away with the 42lb units but wanted to be sure there wasn't going to be any issues.

A common formula is to take your target flywheel HP and multiply it by .07, and that is your recommended injector size. Of course every combo is different, but it is a good place to start.

But how do you figure out your target horsepower using your cam specs? Is there a horsepower calculator that I need to know about?

There are several things you can do. Desktop Dyno is a good one. Perhaps a more real-world scenario is to find someone with a similar build and dyno numbers and go from there. Unfortunately no one can tell you how much power your motor will put down exactly, but the closer the better. If you are still unsure, I would take your estimated target HP and add 10%, then multiply by .07. It's always better to be a bit on the large side than on the small side.

I estimated my motor to be around 575fwhp so theoretically I would need 40# injectors. I have 42# Racetronix currently and run right around 85% DC @ WOT. So it's fairly accurate.

See, this is what I need to learn. I need to call a pro and have him explain what all the percentages mean. I'm gonna have to call Lonnie tomorrow.

Injectors are pretty easy. The PCM pulses a ground to fire each injector. The length of the pulse is the pulsewidth (measured in milliseconds), which is proportional to how much fuel the injector sprays. The higher the pulsewidth, the more the injector stays open, the more fuel that sprays. The PCM has a maximum allowable pulsewidth (dependent on RPM), and if the fuel required is above what the injector can supply for a given PW, that is running over 100% DC. The injector load is the duty cycle, measured in percentage.

Fuel pressure, system voltage, temperature, and injector flow rate also have an effect on DC.

Whats the best way to get the max DC when I'm recording with the laptop? I have some runs from yesterday, but I only had maybe 65-70% @6200 on some #42's.
