oil pan removal question

I had to drop the k-member some when I did mine. I think we dropped the motor mounts out and lifted the engine some. That was with my t-56. As for filters I think you can use that since my brothers had a very long one when we got it.

There seems to be a constant debate on whether you need to drop the K-member or not. Usually, however, the debate centers around what transmission you have in the car, but since yours is out, it doesn't figure into the equation.
Having said that, I've had the pan off my '96 Z-28 a couple of times, while chasing down #$%!!?? oil leaks, and I've simply unbolted the motor mounts, loosened the tranny mount bolt, and lifted the engine. I did have to mess with the position of the forward crank throws, in order to have room to slip the pan through, but it did clear. I do, however, have an auto tranny.
