MSD 6a?
I have a slight low rpm rough idle not bad, but I notice it. I am thinking about installing a MSD 6a box on my car. Will there be any benefit to installing it on my full bolton hot cam car with a MSD opti and MSD coil?

Like gregrob said no there is not. your problem is somethign else (maybe iac or tps). do a search there are a lot a people who did the same question. LTx ignition systems are very good. seeing you have a msd opti (those things spins to 7K rpm without even hesitate, I spins mine to 6300 without problem). I heard that the 97 LT1 camaro came withe the same coil as the Lt4 (smartcoil). Anyway the box wont do noting i heard some guy install boxes (not 6A) when ther are running nitrious to set timing.

Heres an interesting video for you guys. http://www.msdignition.com/products/ignitions/ I know it's from the MSD website so they're probably trying to promote their own product but the proof is right there. I have the 6a box and I couldnt really tell you if it made a difference or not. I installed the 6a with new plugs, wires, and coil but I can tell you after I installed those it ran much smoother. Like I said, it's not proof that it works or not, but it worked for me. I put it on because of all I've heard about the stock optis breaking up at higher rpm's, I guess every little bit helps. It also didnt hurt that I got my box for $40 I say if you find a good deal go for it, it cant hurt.

From everyone's post it seems that the MSD box will not help. A old mechanic told me the 6a box will really help out, but I was thinking I should be fine with my MSD opti and MSD blaster coil. The roughness at idle is really not bad at all I and it pulls all the way to 6400 rpms with no miss. But I have become accustom to driving a stock 2004 neon se around, my lt1 will not idle anywhere near as smooth. If it truly works as well as the video shows on a 97 lt1 ignition system, then it just might have some minimal benefits.

on my last motor the 6al2 was worth 0 (zero!) hp on back to back pulls. Oh yea the pull with the box was done first. I run a HVC II coil now with that box... that might have made a difference with the compression and fuel I'm running. BTW msd blaster coil and new icm FS for 40 shipped!
