Default LT1 Hooker LTs, ceramic coated - anyone have them?

I'm seriously thinking of getting these. Does anyone have them, if so how good are they performance wise? Can you feel the difference? Are they worth the price? I own a 1994 Trans Am with K&N FIPK, cut out, Holley air foil, Vortech intake elbow, and MSD wires for now. How will that benefit my current set up?

Both pics are about 150kb. I have not installed them yet, but I'm sure they're beneficial regardless. Especially if you ever plan on throwing a cam in your motor. In case you're wondering, I ordered them from Speed Inc.

I dont have the Hookers, but I do have their cheaper and improved upon twins---Jet-Hot LTs. They made a HUGE difference over my old stock manifolds and definitely worth the $495 shipped I paid back in June. That was a GP price but they're still cheaper than the Hooker Super Comps. Any header will benefit your setup, the stock manifolds are quite restrictive.

I've installed hooker LTs. Taking the stock exhaust manifolds off is really the biggest pain in the *** about the install. The stainless works y-pipe I bought is not what I would call a direct bolt in either(despite their advertising). A friend of mine bought the mufflex y-pipe for his LS1 and had similar problems. I had to cut mine in two places and it still doesn't line up perfectly with my Corsa catback. Furthermore - plan on getting a universal spark plug wire set, b/c the headers will cook your stock location #5 or #7 cylinder plug wire (I forget which it was). Oh yeah, and lets not forget about the SES light that comes on when you get rid of your EGR air pump and associated crap (Hooker super comp LTs are not compatible with emissions equipment). Ok, enough about the bad stuff. On the plus side, you WILL feel the difference in torque across the RPM band. I don't have dyno #'s but I would think that increases of 25-30 horsepower at the motor isn't unreasonable. You'll believe it when you see how restrictive the stock manifolds are. Another thing, they sound cool as hell even with a stock cam. But forget about being a "sleeper." You won't fool anybody after you install the headers.

PS: you should get O2 simulators and O2 sensor extensions, too. I got those from Speed Inc for a pretty good price. They were one of the few things about the swap that was truly a "bolt on." Another thing: once you install the headers, ground clearance WILL be an issue. So don't plan on lowering your car if the roads around you aren't decent. Speed bumps really suck, too.

You won't need O2 sims on a 94, just the extensions. Also on a 94 you won't get an SES light if you remove the Air Pump. Both of the reasons above are because you car uses OBD1 and not OBD2 like the 96 and up models.93-95 used the OBD1.

Hooker LT's are a great investment IMO, I saw very significant gains from them, and would recommend them as one of the first mods you should do for anybody starting out. If you get them, I'm sure you'll be happy with the improvement. I agree with the above statement by Elysian, plan on buying new wires. I recommend the Taylor 8mm over the valve cover wires. $100 from ThunderRacing with the crimping tool you'll need.

I'm not dissing anyone opinion but I thought I'd put in my 2 cents worth. I built an LT1 396 stroker and went to the Hooker LT's. IMHO, I wouldn't go to the LT's until I built a hotter motor. I would stick with shorties for a stock motor because a stock motor doesn't neccessarily have to breathe as much as a bigger stroker type. The shorties keep a good amount of low end torque whereas the LT's will boost upper RPM horsepower. One thing you have to look at as well is the adaptibility of the LT's. I had to get a custom Y-pipe made for my taste and that was $$. If I didn't have the stroker, I might just have some shorties and a good cat back. The shorties allows you to run the stock Y in the stock location. LT's can be a pain in the @$$ to install. Good luck.

I've got my MAC's and am super happy with them. They're not considerd a shorty but aren't a long tube either. They're mid-lengths. If I had it to do over again, I'd stick with my MAC's. Definately made it easier to swap trannys this year when all I had to do is drop the Y-pipe. Didn't need to worry about having LT's in the way.

Old subject brought back...

How much ground clearance did anyone loose?
I'm already lowered with the SLP Level III suspension kit.

Dood... you should have done a search. There is so much info on Hooker/Jet Hot LTs on LT1 boards it's ridiculous.

yea dude, mine isnt lowered and i avoid speed bumps at all costs. you loose a lot of clearance, esp. with a lowered car.

the custom y-pipe that you have to get is even lower than the headers, but worth the investment

Got mine in back in March. Definitely clearance issues and I'm at stock height. Accidently went fast down a road that had a few dips and ended up shooting sparks everywhere. Felt like Formula 1 when they scrape stuff. No problems other than that though. Nothing was hurt from the spark spray or the contact that caused it. I hope you put some kind of LT in. Definitely worth the money.
