Default Swap the hotcam for something else

Hey guys I am waiting on my pos honda to sell. When it does I can get my transmission rebuilt. Anyways I have a whole bunch of parts ready to go on like a borla muffler over the magnaflow and the ram air hood and box. Anyways I have to take the timing cover and oil pan off to fix the oil pan and timing cover gasket. Anyways the I got 100 miles on the hotcam and found it kinda disappointing. Anyways I have the supporting valve train to support a bigger cam. Since I will be in there anyway should I swap the cam for something like a cc503 or maybe a cc306 as the car has been taking off dd status forever. Or should I just stick with the hotcam. What do you guys think?

i absolutely love my cc306, its proven performer no matter what ppl say. google it or youtube it an pay attention to the 1/4 mile ets even with stock heads there moving. cc306 has tons of haters, obviously custom grind is the better choice. i ran mine with stock heads a few months ago for about a month it still made great power.

If you're going to keep the heads stock, I'd recommend the AI 226/234. Lots of guys hauling some serious *** with their stuff.

A lot of guys are running cams in the mid 220/230 duration range and over .550 lift. I wanted something similar to a GM 847 so I backed off the duration a bit and had the LSA set at 110 to keep the peak around 6400 and give me some low end back.

I would call LE or AI and tell them your goals and have them spec you a cam....I don't see the point in NOT doing this...Not very much more money and you WILL get the best performance for your money....

Yeah I should hit up AI or LE for a custom cam. I am ready to see my bird back on the road for once in two years. Tired of driving a pos honda crx that broke down all the time and currently needs about $350 in parts just to get it out of the yard. Its the only thing right now keeping my Firebird form being back on the road. The bad news is nobody wants a crx anymore and there are not selling. Not even the $500 running ones. So looks like it may be a while before the car gets rolling.

no cc503 no cc306........while they are good cams there are much better running and powerful options out there.......call AI they will be able to help you.....im gonna say like joe did above that the AI 226/234 cam is definatly your ticket on this one..........it WILL make more power and WILL run great.....give them a call they're great to deal with too......here's a link to the cam we are talking about .....

for sure, its old technology that works well today. But that's also why i said obviously custom grind is the better choice. Would i pull my cc306 out to replace it with a custom grind in the 350... hell no. But would i put it in my forged 383 i have waiting to go in for years... def not a custom grind like lloyd already spec'd out would benefit better.

Yeah I may go with a off the self cam as I have the original engine to this car sitting in the garage waiting to turn into a 383. Also have a set of 374 heads being saved up to head over to AI or LE.
