Default weird tapping sound

Hello all, it seems my cars developed a strange tapping noise. It only happens when the car is in gear and idling. No noise when driving from what I can hear. car runs fine and drives/shifts fine. No drop in power. just noise. Any ideas?

how many miles ? have you adjusted the rockers recently ? sounds like either a weak lifter or a loose rocker. you could try running a slightly thicker oil

10w40 is mac weight you using for this engine. try 5w40 castrol gtx or high miles version, since it thicker. or just 10w40.

you could also try the lucas heavy duty oil stabilizer. I always run that in all of my cars. I use it in place one a quart of oil. the stuff is Magic!

Either the rockers need adjusting or you may have a minor exhaust manifold leak. Had the same thing happen on my 93 and it ended up being the exhaust manifold gasket went, but adjusting those rockers sure didn't hurt anything.

well, i took a look at it today and it seems to be coming from bellhousing. thought it was loose torque converter bolts ( just had a stall put in a few months ago) but they were all tight. the tci sfi flex plate isnt cracked either. is it possible its the front pump? im going to repost this in the trans section and see what i can get.

heres a vid of the noise. the first 15 secs or so is the car in park. after that the car is in reverse and then i switch it to drive, so theres a brief break in the tapping when i shift. then close to 40 seconds i gave it a little gas and you can hear the tapping become more frequent. any ideas? the noise seems to be coming from the bellhousing

i havent checked for one, but i really dont think its an exhaust leak. i had it up on a lift and it sounds like its coming right out of the bellhousing. i'll check for a leak though. hopefully that'll be it!

Could be the torque converter itself. What brand is it?

oil pressure is fine. hangs around 30 at idle if i remember right. had it up on a lift earlier, definately coming from the bellhousing. it looks like the flex plate is wobbling, so im guessing its cracked or something?

It doesnt really sound like it, but you should check your cats. When they break from the inside, they cause a type of rattle that you can only hear when the car is not moving or idle.

its more of a ticking or a knocking than a rattle. cant really be heard in park or neutral, which is why im thinking its transmission related
