If I was getting into road racing my thoughts would be:

98-02 2 piston caliper upgrade
Stainless steel brake lines
Brembo blanks & a nice set of pads
Put in some nice brake fluid while I'm at it

Honestly, my first move would probably be sending Sam Strano a PM or e-mail though...not to be a nut swinger, but he knows his ****

Im looking into the CTS-V swap, it seems to be a pretty decent setup for not a terrible cost if you can source correctly, but i have no real world experience with it.

If you have the wheel size either the CTS-V swap, or I know SLP had some Camaro takeoffs that are almost a direct bolt on to a 98-02 spindle, just have to drill out 2 holes. I know the camaro takeoffs fit in a 19" wheel, not sure how large you need to go for the CTS-V. For a 17" wheel the C-5 swap is your best bet. These are all the more cost effective swaps, performance friction has some really nice calipers, and bear make some nice kits but you are going to spend a small fortune.

Forget going to a different spindle. By the time you go through the trouble of buying everything and then having to get an alignment it's just as much as buying the C5 conversion brackets if not more. Not sure about the rest of the hardware, but cutting the ears off the original spindles is far less involved than having to replace them.

That is exactly what I did. All I need are the lines and I will be ready to swap.

Best, as in money is no object? I agree with the call Sam statement. Who better to ask then someone who has won on the national level with a 4th gen.

I was going to see if the SLR brakes fit. Replacement rotors are like $10,000 each though...

This is the most common setup you see suggested in the Suspension and Brakes setup.

The 98-02 brakes have taken San to quite a few championships, with quality rotors, stainless lines, fresh brake fluid and some GOOD pads. Going to the C5 brakes can be an upgrade, but most say it's more of an appearance mod than performance.

Check out the brakes and suspension section, there's a lot of information on this subject here.

I did: base c6 front calipers (revised c5 z06 design), brembo blanks, stock rears. Nice thing about the c5/c6 upgrade over the CTS-v is that you can keep ur 17" wheels.

Alot! My car with the C5 Z06 brakes was like night and day when i made the change from stock LT1 brakes. They can be really ferocious at times. Just need to be more careful with the metering of the right foot

From what I've understood, the C5 brakes arent that much larger/more effective than the 98-02 brakes.

^What is the size of the 98-02 fbody vs. C5 vs. C5 Z06 calipers/rotors? I thought the C5 Z06 brakes were just a red version of the regular C5 caliper?

Exactly. It's just as much fun to stop as it is to go now!

What ever you do you need a proper balance front and rear. Keep that in mind while thinking of what to do. C-5 Zo6 with LS1 rear would be a really nice combo that would be hard to match with even a full front and rear bear setup.

That would be great if you like replacing calipers often after they spread.
