Default msd crank trigger

i've done a little bit of searching and haven't had much luck. can anyone give me the rundown on what i need to get rid of the opti signal and use the msd crank trigger as my signal or tell me where to find the info? i know the opti also controls injector firing. I wan't to do this because i'll be over 7k and previous opti issues. It would give piece of mind. I have the msd 6a but i don't know if it is compatible with this setup. Any help?? thanks

how do you plan on firing the injectors? You can run the crank trigger to the 6a and fire the coil that way, but your timing will be a fixed xx degrees. But still you'll need some way of signaling the pcm.....

Isn't it the injector timers in the pcm that end up not functioning over 7000rpms? In which case the ignition mods wouldn't help you much.

You didn't say so, so I will ask, are you looking at an aftermarket pcm?

What kind of timing pointer would you use?

i used a cheapy stamped spectre chrome unit, shaved all the unnecessary bends off of it so it was flat, then epoxied it to the opti cap. I normally wouldn't rig something like that, but really didn't feel like spending more than 10 bucks for something hidden under the water pump and ****.

You don't need a cam signal for xfi? How will the injectors fire?

Anyone know of gen 7 dfi is the same way?

you don't need a cam signal if you want to batch fire the injectors. If you want a cam signal setup and want to keep the opti as a distributor I have a solution for you. I have a setup for XFI and DFI...

I see, good point. I am batch firing now with the dfi. I am interested in going sequential. The best route would be to ditch opti and put a standard distributer in for cam signal and a crank trigger up front.

What is your option?

I'm doing it with a cam sensor setup inside the opti, I haven't finalized pricing for it, but shouldn't be more than 150, turnaround time would be 2 days max.

Will doing that and running a crank trigger get rid of the "weak link" of the opti? If you are using the opti as just a distributor does it make it safer?

Why not drill the intake a run a crab style distributor? That will give cam signal and run crank trigger for crank signal. Or run a dual sync distributor?

or you could just run the opti as a distributor? and instead of paying for machining, a dual sync distributor (which have their own problems as well), and welding the opti hole you could run my setup inside the opti which should have zero reliability issues. Look for more info of this running on my motor in a few weeks.

Or you could ditch the whole POS opti setup and their bandaid fixes and run the 24x conversion and be better off in every aspect.
