How much compression does a Shim gasket add
How much compression does a Shim gasket add Well as some of you know I'm about to get my short block for my car within the next couple weeks and going with an 11:! compression piston.
I've heard about head gaskets but want to know how much each one could up my compression a lil bit because Ive heard its safe to run up wards near to 12.5:1 compression on pump gas with these things.

Shim gaskets when used properly are a good way of increasing your compression, but IMO for a street daily-driven motor there isn't much benefit. For a DD I'd probably stick to a 12.0:1 instead of 12.5:1, just to be on the safe side.
I agree it's better to limit to 12:1 CR for a DD. However, I wouldn't even go that high unless the block was decked or a shim gasket used to bring the quench down to about .035".
