Displacement still affects the tuning, but that's more of a function of the camshaft selection to facilitate the added cubes.

For tuning I have used www.pcmforless.com with great results (in sig). Others use madz28.com, Ed Wright, etc. Lots of companies to choose from.

For the interface cable, www.akmcables.com

hypertech is only good for stock applications to get more out of your stock motor with basic mods... It is a thing of the past from before the internet brought everything together making research easy.

Ok next question would how easy is to navigate thru? Or do you really have to know what your doing? This would be this 1st time using it...any of them for that matter. Granted im in tech school at the moment but they only tech us stock code reading and what not...nothing for proformance.

Since you would be tuning a 383 and it would require a completely different timing table and massive fueling tweaks , I would get a base tune by mail and have the final tune done on a dyno and a drive test with a scanner to tweak the part throttle tune as well.

It would also be a good idea to have a wide band O2 sensor used during the tuning since the factory O2 sensors are very narrow and at times vague.

The link you posted is an OK accumulation of cut and paste stuff but being cut and paste there are mistakes like the cam rpm ranges cut and pasted from Summit.

According to that my cam should have a rpm range up to 5500 but reality is it peaks somewhere around 6400 and is still making power at 7000rpm

I know this is an old thread but FWIW I currently run a 385 (3.75" Lunati Sledgehammer crank bored .040 over). I have 30lb SVO injectors and an intake ported/modded by Golen Engine in Delaware. Rods are 6" Eagle h-beams, **** of Thor cam, heavily ported Lt1 factory casting heads (by Chad Golen again) Holley throttle body and Aeromotive adjustable FPR. Also have Moroso CAI and Kooks 1 3/4" LT's with a Kooks true dual system. Puts out 567@ the crank and couldn't be happier. Call Chad Golen and he'll take the time to answer all the questions u may have. Some of the best support out there. As for tuning, don't waste money on a handheld. Get a dyno tune when going this deep into a rebuild

How does it run at the track?
Golen's dyno numbers are pretty well recognized as highly inflated. Also how long have you had it? A LOT of his stuff has shortblock issues well before 10K miles.

The Holley TB is expensive and trouble prone and the adjustable regulator wasted money besides the fact the Aeromotive were very leak prone and burned cars to the ground.

I suspect you "couldn't be happier" because "you don't know any better". Line up against a well setup stock shortblock and then share you excuses with us.

I will say this, you have an awesome magazine build there.

Just to be clear to those who are going to blindly defend Golen, Joe is one of the many who got bad engines from him.

There are guys here so stupid they will tell you Golen is good even after having to redo poor performing strokers he built.
