for a 383 or 396 the motor will have to be bored as well as clearanced for the stroker crank, that requires new pistons and rings as well as the machine work,

a new crank (forged is highly recommended over cast) will need to be purchased, as well as new cam bearings ,main bearings, and rod bearings, stock rods can be used perferrably with new rod bolts.

with all the work on the bottom end you will need a new cam and ported heads as well as new springs, pushrods, rocker arms, guide plates possibly as well if you want the car to perform

You're better off buying a complete forged rotating assembly (crank, rods, pistons, rings and bearings) then you'll need to have the block machined (bored, honed, decked and splayed 4 bolt billet caps installed). You'll also need to have the block clearanced in the panrail area and balance the rotating assembly, plus you need to get your heads ported and a matching cam.

I would highly recommend Clayton Racing Engines in Bartlett, Illinois. Talk to Corey Clayton, he'll set you up. In fact, he's a sponsor here.

IMO it's not worth it unless you have the funds to invest in a good heads/cam deal at the same time. Leaving the valvetrain stock with a 383 bottom end will do you absolutely no good.
