Default is my opti bad

hey a have a 96 trans am a4 wit header and bbk tb my car runs good till 4000 rpm then it bog out and miss could it be the opti car has 121000 miles on it

I would say yes. if you get a new one just get one from GM.

Check your fuel pressure. could be your pump diying or cloged fuel filter.

how would i check my fuel pump to see if it bad, also the guy i got it from had a msd box hook up to it. but wen i got it i unhook it. people told me they mess up the opti is that true

To check fuel pump and most other fuel problems: $40 mechanical fuel pressure guage from an auto parts store and screw to the schrader valve to monitor fuel pressure.

If pressure is good, then you can eliminate fuel delivery problems.

well the car has new msd 8.5 wires and it runs ok till 4000 rpm then bog and miss it had a msd box hook up went i got the car but i unhook it thinkin it was the problem wat else can i check

everything else is good so i going to get a opti thank should i hook back up the msd box or not like poeple say it make the opti bad

everytime i go to the j/y i pull control modules from LT1's. before i spaced it off the head i would burn one up every few hundred miles, having symptoms VERY similar to yours. ever since i spaced it i have had no problems (knock on wood.)

like idk i bought the car the way it is and it has 121000mile but they put a msd box on it and then the car runs ok till u give it 1/2 gas then it bog at 4000rpm i dont know how to check the ICM but i keep that in mind

mine drove great untill i gave it more throttle. i didnt pay attention to the rpms, just that it did not run good under a good load. its worth a shot if you can get one cheap. they are not cheap new.

IF YOU GET A NEW OPTI GET A GM BRAND, DON'T GET ONE FROM EGAY. i got a Accel from summit and it fried at 100 mile. once again good luck
