Default So I think the bottom end is

So i think my bottom end is done and specifically the bolts , theres a ticking slight low knock from bottom engine happened after the throttle incident with the car( where my throttle cable got stuck on coupler for intake and wouldnt stop accel) after letting it sit for a week or two drove it to work n back one day a whinning noise started from engine. Again I let it sit overnight this time backed it out of garage to look at engine and let it run for a min but by the time i got to the hood the engine stalled out. So ill try n get a video up; but Im wondering if anyone has a path suggestion looking to spend 5k tops maybe , so should i make it a 383 or 396 or swap it to a ls1, any help is appreciated thanks. I want to make good numbers to if possible

You have a lot of options. For the money a 355 or 383 with some le heads from eliiotportworks and a good cam will be hard to beat; ls would be nice but it will cost you.

Slight ticking? These motors are pretty tough. My car has had a slight ticking when hot. Pretty sure its my tranny. Do you plan to do the work on the motor your talking about building? If not rebuild your stock bottom end, install a quality set of after-market heads AI, AFR etc with a custom grind cam and supporting valve train upgrades. After parts and labor you"ll be at if not over 5k.

Did you over rev her? As stated above these motors are very tough and can take some abuse. You mentioned it stalled and died along with a ticking, I would take a look at your opti before you start taking the motor apart. It's pretty common to damage the Optical Pick up on the opti due to over reving.

Drain the oil and have a look. If you ate a bearing there will be plenty of metal evident in there. It looks like tiny glitter. Is the motor totally stock right now? Check out Clayton Racing in here for their fully assembled shortblocks. You can get a 383 for around 2 grand.
