"short ram" intake setup?
was curious if anyone has tried this type of air intake setup. need to get a new filter for my k&n elbow and thought i might give this a shot. it would make sense that it would be better, seeing as it is more direct and all, but i was wondering if i would have problems with the maf and the iat sensors. any info is appreciated.

If the filter has an inverted cone in the end and the engine tries to move air the MAF readings will be inconsistent. A VERY similar filter setup is quite common on the b-bodies, only we have a couple sheilds available to keep the hot underhood air out and just pull from over the core support.
I found a single short cone to be a little restrictive unless perfectly clean so I bought a cheap ebay dual cone setup to put in my scoop.

Here is the "scoop" I run.

You could bend your own from sheet metal, or VFN has a trim to fit fiberglass one, there is also a polycarbonate one available.
As is your will suck all hot underhood air, not ideal.
