Default oil pump to pan clearance

does anyone know what the proper clearance is? and are there any easy ways/shortcuts to check clearance

Are you talking about the pick up? IF SO...... I would always put my pick up on the pump with it hanging really low past where the oil pan would be...then I would set the pan on so it pushes the pickup back up..carefully remove the pan and push the pickup 1/4 closer to the motor to give a little clearance.....Mark it and stick a tack weld on it....

Does that make sense???

yeah the pickup sorry, so you say about 1/4 inch clearance is sufficient. and it will be tac welded

ok good to know, and so you guys know its a melling m155 (standard volume standard pressure) with a gm "white" pressure relief spring

That is the only pump I would run... I never did use the white spring though and my motor always had great oil pressure..

i figured for 5-6 bucks, cant really beat it (the spring)
