Default Engine Install problems!

I have a 1994 Z28 and I'm putting in my new engine with the transmission(T-56) out and I need to raise the car with the engine in it to get the trans back in and I can't raise the car to much without letting the engine touch the ground. I can't think of anything that will hold the engine as I lift the car to gets the trans back in. Any ideas? Any input will be greatly appreciated thanks guys.

I am so confused. If the motor is in the car, then why can't you jack the car up?

I think I got it.. you have only 1 jack or engine hoist? Put the motor on an unmounted tire with the bottom of the pan in the hole of the tire.

Sorry for the confusion, the motor is in the car already with the motor mounts on it but the transmission is out of the car and I had a jack under the motor so it doesn't fall and hit the pan. But I needed to raise the car and put it on jacks so I can get the transmission back under the car so I can bolt the bellhousing the the motor. I went in through the top(what a pain the ***!) I got the car raised enough to get the transmission back in the car. I just need to do that tomorrow. I just used a strap to keep the engine from tipping back and it holds just fine. HOPEFULLY I'm putting the transmission back in the car tomorrow. This whole process has been a bitch this entire time. I'm gonna be so happy when it's done!

If the engine is already in the car why would you need to jack the engine? Are you saying you have the engine sitting on the k member but it isn't bolted to the mounts?!

If my post above is right then the engine isn't bolted in but just supported by the jack to make it easier to install the trans right? If so it would be a lot easier to bolt the engine in and get two 3/8 or 1/2 inch drive extensions with a swivel to bolt the top bolts in of the trans or borrow another jack.

WTF is going on here?

If the engine is installed, just jack the freaking car up and put the transmission in. Otherwise, finish installing the engine and then put the transmission in.

The k member holds the engine off the ground when it is installed...

If the motor is on the mounts and the trannsmission is not bolted to the motor when you jack up the car with the motor unsupported but bolted to the k-member , it will not crush the pan.

I put my jack stands on flat bricks and took off a front tire then rolled the trans under the car. (the $40 I spent on the Harbor freight trans jack was well worth it!)

Bolt the engine up to the motor mounts and jack up the car as much as you want. I am pretty confused though, I am not exactly sure what your situation is. Complete clarity from post 1 is crucial on the interwebs, that way people know how to respond.

Sorry for the confusion but I finally got everything. Transmission and engine are all back in and fine. I just need to get some stuff buttoned up and get it tuned and I'll be done. Yeah I know that makes it easier said than done. Lol

maybe just go out and in from the bottom next time, that way the trans and headers and almost everything else can be installed with ease.
