What code reader are you using? VERY few readers have the capability to read a 95 due to the hybrid OBDI PCM/OBDII connector. Even most parts stores can't scan them. Your best bet for scanning is a low cost AKM cable and a laptop.

aldlcable.com...order the cable, download the free program, buy a power converter for your laptop(optional) and you're good to go

Normal code readers won't read 95s, I have a 3000 dollar snap on scanner that I have at work that reads them fine

All 95s are OBDI, but the ALDL connector is a 16-pin D-shape connector commonly used for OBDII. 95s are funky like that.

Any OBD-I code reader/scanner will work on a 1995. You just need the right cable or adapt a 12 pin cable like this.

When all the pieces of the puzzle are right it does work.

OBD-I scanner, correct pins connected, no reason it should not work.

maybe it was the fact that it was a OBD-I/ OBD-II scanner.

My handheld is a I/II scanner and it works fine. Something in the setup or connection could be at fault.
