Exclamation What to do now?!?!?!

Ok so here’s my story,

I Got 117+ miles on my 95’z28 and the opti went so I figured it would be a good time to do a H/C swap. When I started looking I found a good deal (or so I thought) on a 355 short block (talked him down to $500). It is right out of the machine shop, crank .010, with forged pistons. Everything looked great and the seller assured me it was neutrally balanced. I thought ok good deal and snatched it up. After doing some research I don’t even think this is possible with out the flywheel or balancer.

Anyway, a few days later I am oiling everything up to keep from rusting and turned the crank over a few times when I noticed the #1 piston sticking above the deck .123!! This was alarming to say the least especially since all the other ones are below the deck an average of .023

I took #2 and #1 rods out and measured the rod and found #1 was closer to 6.00 instead of the 5.7 So now I have to get another rod which isn’t that big of a deal. What want to know if how the F*^K do you balance a rod that’s that far off?!?! I am assuming he BS’ed me and that’s why I got him down so low on the price.

Sooo...wtf do I do about getting it balanced now? Do I save a few bucks (which I need to do) and take it apart my self or can they balance it like it is. I'm not familar with how they balance it. Everything I have ever taken to a machine shop was disassembled. Any help would be great!!! I am new to the area and don’t know a trust worthy machine shop so I figured I would ask you guys what you thought

your better off dissasembling it and having the whole thing balanced again. You'll be able to sleep better after you know it's ok.

Thats what i figured.

i wander if i will have to get ALL new rods or can i get away with just one. I dont know if they bore all 8 at the same time (like they do with the mains) or if they do them individual. i am hoping to turn it up to 6200-6400 every now and then.

Just get them all checked..if they need to be resized get them resized it's better than buying a new set. BTW what kind of rods are they?

they are stock. the reason i was going to use them was because they were balanced and i'm WAY OVER budget as it is. i would much rather have forged, but what turned into a H/C project has now turned into a whole motor build. if i get forged i definitely need to find a good deal!! i found some cheap I-beams on ebay but who knows what kind of tolerances that have .
