Default Forced induction LT1

Okay, so Ive been looking around at all of the supercharger/possibly turbo options. I am not too bright when it comes to this type of thing, but basically I want a decent power gain and a bad-*** whine. My dad is going to teach me how to install . Suggestions? Experience? Supporting mods needed?

so you want the sound more than the power? makes absolutely no sense. how bout i sell you a cd with a procharger sound and you give me 5500 bucks?
in all seriousness people are going to argue whether a s/c is better than a turbo. personally i like turbo systems more.
but there needs to be more info than just " i want a bad *** whine" turbos whistle btw.
you need to have a power or et goal, and is your car an auto or 6 speed, you will need either a clutch or a built auto. fuel system and all the gauges. its not cheap going fi.
if your father knows his ****, just follow his advice.

I never said anything like that. By saying what I said, I meant that I want something that has a decent power gain and isn't too extreme. I heard that there are superchargers that make no sound?

By themselves they offer very little bang for the buck and offer poor overall reliability and engine longevity.

I suggest you do a lot of reading before digging into any FI setup. The supercharger kit will be easier to install and a turbo kit will likely need additional modification to work properly. There are some good kit builders out there but I do not have installation experience with those to see if they fit perfectly.

If you want a decent power gain, I suggest a good H/C setup. Much cheaper, been done a ton of times, and it will get you some very solid gains.

IMO, a FI setup like anything else, needs the the proper assortment of parts to work effectively and also be reliable. It really all depends on what you are looking to do. Building a 450rwhp supercharged car will be significantly different to a 650rwhp car.

First question....what is your parts budget?

If you really want to do forced induction, check out this site.
http://www.corneltechweb.com/superchargerweb.htm

This guy has done some nice work, and love the video of the car. Can be done, but is alot of work, and you better know what you are doing, or your engine will be toast pretty quickly.

If your motors bone stock i would work the internals first. The stock bottom end wont hold up to too much boost.
And yes 10 bolt will have to go

FWIW , lawhead .. I have experience with a eBay turbo kit.. It was solid, all v-band connections, stainless steel with geat welds , I used the turbo it came with, upgraded my fuel system, put in ARP rod bolts , built trans, stock rear with 2.73 gears made 525hp @ 10psi... NO complains with the kit.. NOT a Fail..

OK so your saying that he should do internal work on a short block that can take 175 shot of nitrous but 8-10 lbs of boost is too much?!?!?! lol

Boost is a LOT easier on the motor than nitrous!

8lbs with a T3/T4 turbo kit would be easy to drive, won't need a high stall, or steep gears. Tuning is the only real main concern. but thats not too bad. oh and a tubular K would help with the install.

good tune and meth will help a stock bottom end last under boost. too many people throw on boost with a tiny intercooler or none at all with a stock/mail order tune IMO.

My brother did the mail order tune. Popped the rev limiter twice in one run, cracked two pistons. He had an intercooler. Which ever way you go make sure you get a good tuner.
