If you want a car you don't have to worry about fixing, go out and sign yourself up for a nice, fat monthly payment on a 2011 Camaro. Make sure you spend extra for the extended warranty.
That said, I bought my '93 a little over 2 years ago with 80k miles on it. I put a fresh optispark, plug wires, ICM, trans mount and water pump on shortly after purchase. The purchase price was adjusted accordingly since the seller agreed it needed some work. With 122,000 miles on the clock now, I just spent $10 on some door lock actuator bumpers as my first actual repair since then. That is 42,000 trouble free miles from an 18 year old Chevy folks. It doesn't get much more reliable than that.

if you don't have the desire to learn or the money to pay someone else to fix it, then an almost 20 year old sports car probably wasn't the best idea for transportation.
don't be afraid to learn, it can be a steep curve. best advice is to find some local people with similar cars, and whenever you hear about one of them getting ready to repair or install something on their car, offer to come over and help. you'll learn alot just by getting your hands in their and listening. also if you ever have some free time, just start reading through some technical posts or install guides so you can start to get an idea of how things go together and work with one another.

I want to learn but no one around here does cars. they all do jacked up trucks. all the do if put lift kits and swamp tires on there. i wish i could get my hands on with the stuff but i dont have tools or anything. i would love to work on my own car and be proud of stuff i built but i really don't need to mess my car up and wont have anyway of getting to school or around. if there was an f body person around here i could go to and get help i would but the closest one is an hour away.

If you went out and bought an econobox kia, Got in it and drove around the block, Would you have a smile on your face???
I did the same **** when I was back in high school. Hell there were plenty of times the damn thing would break down and I would spend half the day jury rigging it back together because I was so broke I couldn't aford parts for it. get a starter tool kit at sears. they used to be 100 bucks for sockets 3/8 and 1/2 drives and some wrenches. Hell dude I have damn near taken an entire car apart and put it back together with one of those kits knowing nothing more than what chiltons manual told me and some instinct. I got one of those for christmas one year and then I got my first car.......towed to the house.....on a flat bed. I was told by my father this: "There is a doner car 50 miles away that is paid for. You can use my truck 3 times to get parts off of it. here is a manual for the car" (83 Starion turbo car) "If you can get this running before you run out of trips in my truck, it's yours to drive." Let me tell you something... he didn't make it easy it was 2 totally different years. Different injection systems. Different this and that. The car that was dropped of to the house had a blown engine, bad clutch, exhaust was rotting off of it from sitting in a feild for the previous several years. You get in there and JUST DO IT. Hell we didn't have the internet back when I started all I had was a stupid chiltons and some guys at the local autozone.

Dont stress out, just ask and learn. You need learn how to do these thing, not just this car, but every other car will own in near future. Like these other guys said, between this site, a couple other forums, and a repair manual (haynes, chilton, ect.), you can learn how to fix ANYTHING on your car. Get some basic hand tools, read up on what you are doing first, then go get dirty. I'd never worked on cars before I got my camaro, and so far I've replaced plugs/wires, water pump, opti, alternator, radiator, window motors, transmission, brakes, had my whole interior out, done headers and full exhaust.. I'm also in the process of tackling some repairs on my DD beater: the trans, clutch, brakes, and some front suspension stuff. The point is, if you never try this stuff out yourself, you'll never learn, and you'll keep paying someone else TONS of money to do it for you! I don't even want to know how much it would have cost me for a shop to do all of my repairs.. thousands in labor alone I'm sure. If you start a project and think you are in over your head, just get on here and ask questions, there are many people who will be glad to help you.
