Arrow Head advice for newb

So I need some input from you senior lt guys. As most you know I have bad pushrod and since I have to do that mine as well do the head. So Im trying to decide on head and cam package to do, but I want to make good power, only thing done to my car is intake , straight pipes from cat back, shift kit in the A4;and supposdely a cam already but the owner didnt know what one because the owner before him did it, so I plan on just getting new cam to. When I do the heads I plan on getting pacesetter headers. I want to keep the bottom end stock for 1-2 yrs so I can do the 383 and save for it and prep the rear end in yr. I want to make the most power without changing anything else other than head. Im working with mayb 2k labor will be free I have a mech helping me with install, plan on overhauling the tranny possibly to. So any recomendations and numbers you guys can give me ,I like the le2 but any other 1s that i should know. What hp can the stock trans, axle, rear end handle ??? im just waiting on some funds so to be in within the month and I will start this.

My advise is don't bother yet. $2k is not enough to do this right, not even enough for just the engine part. Then to top it off you are not looking at the right parts.

Le2s don't come with everything. You need push rods, guide plates, roller rockers, gaskets, injectors, tuning. I'm sure there's more I forgot but its been a few years since I did mine. So it does add up fast. I would just save for a while more and do a lot more research before you tear too far into it. Good luck

work the pipe, cradle the ***** and its your choice on the gravy, I would contact females or a gay friend for more information.

"head advice for a newb"

on a serious note with the 2k budget. I would say cam swap plus bolt ons (if you need any) and then a nice 75-125 shot of nitrous, then when she blows do a good stroker rebuild with heads.

LE also does custom grind cams, a cam only car with a custom cam can be better then most poeple think. the shelf cams are nice but a custom one can perform alot better for what you want.

For 1600 the LE2 heads come wit the assembled ported heads and a cam of your choice. Thats it!! You will also need injectors to support the cam, possibly a bigger throttle body, intake porting, and a tune. just to name a few more things.

You don't have enough $$$ to do a heads/cam swap properly, period. Stick with Dwayne's advice.

one things is you didn't say what you want....for example ...im building a 60%drag and 40% street....loudness,emission and good street ability is not much concern to me...so im trying to build a strong over 4xx hp on motor and then a big shot of nitrous....and of course my tranny and rear end wont hold.....what do you want...just a pep....low 13s on street tires? 10s all motor? full bolt ons and cam sure wakes up a car....plus you need to see what cam you already have....might be a nice one....so i was you i would get the car back running right...add a ls1 lid or CAI....full exhaust and then see what cam you have allready... and go from there.

Doesn't matter what the goal is now, he does not have the budget to do these mods. What other mods he should do with a $2k budget could be another thread.

For $2K, start off with a set of ported heads and a custom cam. Buy supporting parts such as head bolts, gaskets, headers, injectors, etc. when funds are there. When all the parts are there, start your tear down. Good luck.

for $2500, you can go with AI's 200cc heads/cam combo with about $400 left over for proper valvetrain parts that you will need.

$400 won't get you rockers, pushrods, a timing set, and lifters, among other things. Maybe with $3k it is starting to look feasible, but not $2500.

If you go with a decent cam you'll also need a stall, and more than likely a lower gear in the rearend which will run you another grand.

With just about no bolt ons it would even be hard to do a good cam only setup.
