Keep in mind with anything over 3,000 stall, he's going to run into OBD1 computer issues with the stall speed.

I'm not 100% positive about the 4l60s (700r4) without the electronic control, BUT, with the OBD-1 cars in general, the PCM won't shift when you hit redline with a stall to high. IE: You'll float at redline for one... two... maybe three seconds before it shifts. Something to do with the different inputs from the trans and the motor being drastically different with a real high stall, and the cmoputer not "learning, or reading" if you will, fast enough to compensate. Around 3000 stall seems to be the barrier, the problem is worsened with slicks.

93's dont suffer from that problem. 93's still use the tv cable.

go for the big converter. 94-95's do t want to shift with anything much higher then 2800 for whatever reasons.

The 93 shouldn't have any problems with it because the PCM does not control the 4L60s shift points.

The 94-97s PCM sometimes has trouble upshifting with a torque converter that has a stall higher than 2800.

I would go with 3000-3200 on a bolt-on 93 car.

If you want to bypass the problem on the 94-97 cars, just get your PCM tuned.

I have a 3200 in my 93, its fine, we're still old school with an ECM and a 700R4s. The 4L60 is a 700R4 with an extra check ball and 5 pin case connector. You could put a 5K stall in a 93 and I'm sure it could care less. Your friends car is prety much the same as mine, I have a LM, 3.23s, cold air and thats it, the 3200 worls great. Going to make you want some headers though.
