HELP lt1 acting funny
so my "ses" light came on and threw 2 codes which are p0172 and p0175 bank 1 and bank 2 running rich....so I took it out for a drive and after it warmed up at WOT I noticed a little bit of black smoke coming out the tail pipe and when I got home I noticed smoke coming from the front...I shut off the car and tried to see where it was coming from but all I saw was it was from somewhere on te back of the engine...it had like a burning oil smell to it I just replaced my head gasket recently hopefully it did not go out on my luck

How thick and how much smoke did you get from the engine bay? If it wasn't very much the smoke "could" be from an oil leak. I had a minor oil leak which dripped down onto the exhaust. At WOT and high speeds the leaked oil can burn off and cause some minor smoke.
The fuel odor:
The first thing you want to do is check for any obvious and visible fuel leaks (i.e leaking fuel lines). If everything checks out then I would say that the fuel smell is from a malfunctioning Evaporative Emissions Control System (ECCS). In short; Its an emissions system that traps gasoline fumes from the fuel system via vacuum. The left over fuel is stored in a charcoal filled canister which is commonly known as the "EVAP Canister." A fuel smell is generally an indication that the system is not working right.
I will post a reply from another thread that has a ton of information about the ECCS.

This is an older thread back from 2002; but if you scroll down the thread to post #10 you will find a long list of issues, symptoms, codes etc. that are all related to a failing ECCS.

well it was kind of a "shortbus" moment for me, when I put intake gaskets in my car last winter, I capped off some stuff after I deleted EGR and I accidently capped off the EVAP Purge Solenoid and it was pissing off my car apparently haha.

well i havent had a chance to get under the car but i turned it on today and try to check it visually and looks like my o2 sensors are done...can this be my problem maybe its telling the computer to dump excessive fuel and making it throw out black smoke out of the tail pipe?

I ask because my car did the same thing racing a mustang one day, went WOT and saw the black smoke and shut down. pulled over, no more smoke, started back up no smoke. Got it home and things were covered in oil from the back of the manifold leaking. Also had random problems with o2s fouling.
Fixed the intake oil leak, havn't had a problem again.
There is a chance its not this at all, but takes 15 seconds to make sure its dry and might be a simple fix. just throwing out what I've encountered.
My .02, take with salt.
