Clayton Racing???????
I picked the motor up with my friend John on July 23rd. 7 months and 30 days after purchase.
Pro's:
1. The motor looked very well built
2. He used a later model truck block or ZZ4 block (you could tell by the timing chain bolt pattern)
3. He threw in an engine cradle
4. He upgraded the main caps to splayed caps.
Con's:
1. He forgot to include the camshaft ( he did send it out a week later)
2. He forgot to include the timing chain (John just went out and bought one)
3. He forgot to include the spider and dogbones(John had a spare out of a 305 roller motor)
Right after John got the motor we put it on the stand and the emails started about not having a camshaft. Corey said it would need a small base circle cam ( he said that a few times) and that he'd get it out soon. About a week went by and then the cam arrived. I was impressed by the specs, off of the top of my head it's 246/256 with lift near .600" (again off the top of my head). I put a set of calipers on it because it didn't look like a small base circle, and it's not, lol. The calipers said 1.0something, lol. That's stock size, no big deal, it clears just fine. Not sure why he said it needed one.
We just got it running on tuesday. Fired right up, and took about 5 minutes to get the carb and timing dialed enough to drive it. ZERO blue smoke, which is good. The rings seemed to need hardly any time to seat. John runs a decent sized street tire, and it lights them up rather easy. It will get stronger as the miles rack up. It's still on the rich side (to be safe) but not rich enough to wash the cylinders or foul the plugs. It needs the idle turned up 100rpm or so too. Here's a video from his fb account, not sure if it will be viewable or not:

The Best V8 Stories One Small Block at Time
Why do you think LS1tech turbo sponsors drop like flys? Because they do exactly this but people fight back, the shop goes under and lost with the **** winds.
As far as wait time goes, pretty much every good shop this year was on a long backlog. Mostly due to supply and demand from manufacturers. Supply was down yet builds were way up. Sucks to be on the consumer end, but as long as one gets what they wanted, it works out in the end.
As mine gets running I will post some video. Hopefully others will as well. I am glad you guys came back on here and posted up. Corey builds one hell of an engine.
Here is a nice little ls7 they built and put in a 7k mile SS I was drooling over on Saturday at the dyno.
wtf
wtf
Probably leaked out its oil and toasted the bearings.
People ought to read more forums and see all the compliants about waiting on engines this year. Seems to be a common theme this past season. Maybe all of them are just out to screw everyone. I have said it many times in this thread. Supply of parts way down, demand high.
Here is a message I got from Scat while waiting on my crank for more than 6 months of empty promises and lies from Scat..... after receiving this it still took a month to get it. So before placing blame or judgement on a builder, all the facts should be known. I saw first hand over 20 machined blocks sitting and waiting on parts that were on back order. Only way an engine jumped up in its place in line was if the engines parts were able to be found. Some people even got better parts as a result of waiting just to make the customer happy and the inconvenience of the longer wait at no charge. The builder can only go by what the supplier tells them. If the supplier gives a line of b.s. which in turn is passed on to the buyer, it then in turn makes the builder look bad. Such is the case with Scat and my parts. Believe me I was more than pissed about it and I went directly to the source, not the builder. Even now there is shortage on cranks to other shops.... know why? Corey bought every available stroker crank from scat and Callies he could get his hands on. He even paid premium pricing just so he had them.
Again, I will stand behind Clayton Racing and Corey. I won't even tell you how long my engine has been there but I will say it has been longer than anyone that has posted on here that got theirs way earlier than me. The engines that have been received I can tell you their orders came in long after mine was already there. I have zero issue with how long mine has taken because I know the final results.
Here is what I received from Scat after a nasty Facebook post I put up on their wall that they took down....
Jim,
When you have questions about an order, it is much more efficient to just pick up the phone and call us.
We have been in business for over 45 years and one reason for that is our commitment to customer service.
Our fill rate is over 95% on thousands of cranks, rods and rotating assemblies, but once in awhile we run into a supply problem, which is the case with this part number
As it turns out these forgings are due at our facility tomorrow and we will process and ship as soon as we run them through the shop.
If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact you engine builder, or you are welcome to contact us direct with any specific questions.
Our sales person for you Engine Builder is Brian McCullough, 310. 370. 5501 x. 130
