yea it deffinetly sucks to have to wait. I wouldnt do it tho. I took the battery out of mine so i wouldnt get stupid. I get very eager, I once started up a bike with a oil fed cam chain tensioner not hooked up, Ive yet to see as much oil come out of a small hole again apart from when you pull a drain plug on a warm engine lol.

Im sure id try to start mine right now if it wasnt for my computer being on a UPS/Fedex truck.

Ive ran mine for a few seconds at a time without a waterpump or alternator hooked up just to see if it was firing. I would hate to get everything back together and it not start.

so (some of) you guys aren't confident enough in your mechanical abilities to completely finish the project before starting the engine...for fear of having to tear it down again? at what point should one contact an outside source for engine overhaul?

really all you need is fuel and ignition to make the motor run. if those 2 things are squared away it will run. just remember stuff like tranny and oil cooler lines...

No, Im just not confident in the new opti I just installed. What is it gonna hurt to crank the engine and hear it fire with the waterpump off?
