Default LT1 Starter wiring probems

I have two small wires coming out of the same harness near the starter. One of them is connected to the small post on the starter. The other small wire is black and is just hanging there. My alternator suddenly stopped charging and I assume that wire has something to do with it but I don't know where to connect it. If I rev the engine the guage shows 13.9. When I let off, it falls to 8.

I have a 1997 Trans am lt1 6speed. Stock starter.

The cars starts fine but the alternator is not charging. If that wire is not grounded, will it cause the alternator to not charger?

It was all fine until I took the starter off and found this wire hanging there above the stater. I put the starter back on and all of a sudden it stopped charging. The alternator is fine.

I didn't even disconnect any of the wires from the starter. I just dropped it to fix my dip stick.

Can you see where it goes? I do agree with wicked about it looking like a ground.

I think it's a ground but I'm not sure. I have no idea where is goes? It was tucked up about the starter and when I dropped the starter, there it was.

If it is the PCM ground, will that effect the alternator charging?

Not having a ground connect could do all kinds of crazy things lol Hook the ground back up and see what happens...

Start the car, and tap that wire/eyelet to ground. If you get a nasty spark, it's a hot wire and not a ground wire. If you get nothing, bolt that sumbitch down.

Nice exposed wiring on the starter solenoid BTW. Wrap that $hit up.
