Default New clutch

Motor finally got the best of the stock clutch. What is a good clutch to go with? Transmission shop told me it would be best to buy my own. Looking for a complete kit with everything they need. Car is just camed and full bolt ons. Any direction in a good kit will be appreciated.

I been using Spec clutches on my car for a while and I really like them. For my next one I think I'm going to try Competition Clutch. A lot of guy on here have been running them and they seem to be holding up

I have over 20k miles on my ram powergrip hd so far without any complaints. Drives great and grabs when you need it to.

I also have the RAM powergrip HD and like it a lot...plenty of holding power and not bad at all to daily drive in regards to chatter on takeoff or heavy *** clutch pedal that often comes with a aftermarket clutch. (I used to have a Kevlar RAM racing clutch on this car back in the late 90's....that thing was a BITCH...chattered like crazy if you trying to take off at less than 1500 RPM and only lasted 12,000 miles...it seems they have improved a lot.)

I've got the stage two competition clutch. For the price it can't be beat. I've got a little chatter in reverse but other than that it's perfect.

I'm running a Spec1 and I'm very happy with it, though you'd want the 2 or 3 for your motor. I've also installed Competition Clutch clutches in non-fbodies and have had great luck with them, too.

If you do decide to get a clutch with pucks instead of a fullfaced disk, like the Spec3, I can say to make sure it has a sprung hub, not solid.

Clutches with pucks are streetable but very grabby, and going with a solid hub clutch is not going to make for a smooth ride at all. If your car actually is a race car that doesn't see the street much, then I'd say get the solid hub

Some other good brands besides Competition Clutch and Spec are Ram, Zoom, Centerforce, and McLeod is probably the best.

I daily drive with a solid hub Spec stage 4. It's not as bad as most people say, but it does take a little time to get used to

A good friend of mine has a Spec4 in his '99 Z28. For the first week or so of driving it he'd accidently chirp tires between shifts lol.

Took him a while but he got used to it and learned to drive it slightly smoother.

I didn't say it couldn't be done, I just said its not an enjoyable type of clutch to drive daily, for most people.

I only drove the car on weekends or nice days but don't want something terrible. Where's the best place to grab one of these kits? Jegs or summit?

^ This.

I daily drove my Spec 4 for 2 years before garaging my car. It is perfectly streetable.

I chose it because the springs in the hub seem to be a weak point. No springs, no problem.

People are overly skittish about the drivability of unsprung clutches. They are not bad at all. I even taught someone how to drive manual transmission on it, and they were up and running just as fast as anybody I've taught in any car.

Just looked at a spec3. $539 isn't as bad as I thought. This comes with everything they will need?

You need just the clutch disk, throwout bearing, and pressure plate. Usually they come with an alignment tool.

You'll also want to resurface your flywheel. (I replaced mine with a lightened flywheel)

This is also a good time to replace the pilot bearing in the rear of the crank. And the rear main seal, if it needs it.

Just make sure to do one of these. Don't ever reuse a flywheel ran with a different clutch.

I'm most likely going with a competition clutch stage 3 when I pull my trans for a rebuild in a few weeks. At $280 for the whole kit, its hard to beat for the money
