Default Camshaft End play

I was wondering how much it should have and how it can be adjusted. Only way i can see adjusting it is by moving the cam plug in the end of the block. Shed some light on me here guys. thanks

On an LT1 there is a thrust plate between the cam and drive sprocket.

yes im very aware of that. but how far the cam plug in the back of the block is pushed seems like it would make a difference.

For what its worth, ive never put together an LT1 and had it seem excessive im just trying to cover my bases here.

You probably haven't installed the timing chain yet, and you are freaking out by how far forward and back the cam is moving lol. When you put the timing chain on it will pull the cam forward a lot. It will barely move forward or backward at all.

If you put a roller cam into a non-roller block then you have to use a thrust button in the front of the cam that butts up against the timing cover. The cam wants to move forward. With our blocks, we have a retainer plate. The cam butts up against the retainer plate and then is bolted to the timing chain. It can only move a tiny bit when it's all bolted up. You don't need anything at the back of the cam except for that freeze plug.

I've built a few lt1s and sbc and BBC. I've done roller swaps. What I was woundering is .10 to .15 target movement?
