Hitting rev limiter at WOT then shifting
When I WOT my car it goes to 6100 rpm. I don't this the stock shift point would be after the redline. So what could the problem be? And is it safe to run my stock motor that high, or should I get it looked at.?
Thanks!
Thanks!

Mine did that for a while, motor OK, trans was going out. Have someone adjust your WOT shiftpoints and start saving $ for a rebuild. And if you ever wanted to convert to 6sp, this is the time to start getting parts together and start reading up on how to make the swap.

The stock rev limiter is set at ~5800rpm so if you're truly stock I doubt your seeing a true 6100pm, only because the stock tach has been known to be inaccurate. Regardless...
...post #2 would be my first concern as well. Bouncing off the rev limiter prior to shifting usually means the trans is going south.

AFAIK stock rev limit is 6200. Assuming that you are concerned about the shift points I am guessing you have an automatic.
1) if this happens in first gear more than 2nd and beyond. Have no fear, the stock tachometer is a bit slow, thus when you are in 1st at WOT the gauge can't ascend as fast as the motor is revving.
2) if this is all gears, you have some sort of tranny issue but I would verify first by checking the PCM for codes and probably doing a fluid/filter change might help your case also.
3) shifting at redline after bouncing the rev limit isn't awful but it isn't something I would make a habit of either. Besides the lt1 really stops making power after 5800.

Point taken. This is what I have been going off of since the day I had my car. I have an m6 and it has an untouched PCM. If I just sit there and bounce it off the limiter... 6200. I'll consult the FSM when I get a chance.

Back in 97 when my brother bought his ss new we found that it was fastest shifting at 5500. Any higher and he lost mph.
Back when my 93 lt1 vette was bolt ons I found 1.6 rrs new springs and pushrods really helped over 5000 rpm. I did march pullies at the same time and my mph went from 106 to 111. Most because I was hanging on to 4th longer which I couldnt do before because the motor felt like it was strangled after 5k rpm (had 4.09s in the back).
Not that it helps the op I just felt like sharing that?
To the op: are you feeling the car jerk and buck when it hits the limited or are you seeing it on the tach? Could be inaccurate tach as mentioned by others
