Does the pressure plate mount to the flywheel in a specific location, or just anyway the bolt holes line up? I see that there is a red dot on the pressure plate, but I didn't know if it needed to be lined up to something or not.

No, the pressure plate is neutral balanced. The only one I've seen with a specific orientation is the McLeod twin disk setups. You found your problem where it's not sitting flush against the flywheel, fix that and you should be set.

I got back to your message but just to let you know on here also that all you should have to do is tighten those bolts a little more. Again I had the EXACT problem and it was just me believing it was all good when my wrench said 22ft lbs. It's not going to be spot on. Those numbers are so nobody cracks the aluminum PP housing. Tighten till flush and leave it be. Problem solved. Your cars no mystery

EDIT: Check your throwout bearing for wear. The vibrations ruined mine and maybe yours as well. Hate to see you put it back together only to have that fail on you like mine did! Ha.

I got everything apart and noticed the pressure plate holes in the flywheel are trashed. I'm thinking of just ordering a completely new one from RockAuto.

Ouch that blows =/ If you don't want to re-tap the holes then go find a stock replacement.

Sorry to hear that you are still having troubles! I remembering going through issues last fall at the same time as you and talking through them with each other.

My clutch pedal was vibrating for a while too, but I realized that this was only if I put some pressure on it. It I touched it just the slightest (to feel it but no pressure), it felt okay. It got better and better with time (wearing in?). If it seems to drive okay I would ignore it and see how it changes with time. Hopefully that isn't bad advice and good luck!

I thought you already had the pressure plate and flywheel sitting flat against each other, otherwise I would have told you to go back and make sure. That would definitely cause vibrations.

As for the bolt holes, I'd just run a tap through them and buy some new bolts at a hardware store. Flywheel's aren't cheap.

Torque all 6 bolts down a little bit at a time in a star pattern and throw some blue loctite on the threads.

As for the 22 ft lbs that people swear by, I was never sold on it. The Spec rep I dealt with when I was having clutch problems told me 30-35 ft lbs. Whether you use a torque wrench or not, just be careful not to over tighten and crack the aluminum pressure plate, as FormulaJoe basically already said.

I ordered one from RockAuto - it was only about $90 after shipping and it's brand new, not a reman. I have no clue how many times this flywheel has been cut and it's the only thing that hasn't been replaced, so might as well.

I also tried torquing them to 30lbs, but there was no difference from 22lbs. That is what made me take a closer look at the bolt holes.

Well looks like your on your way to a drivable car! Hope everything with the re-install goes good, as I'm sure it will.
