Drag radials are a compromise between street tires and ET streets and in no way guarantee traction. Things like LCAs and relocation brackets, front shocks, subframe connectors, weight, etc., all have an impact on traction. You can't deduce the lack of traction to just the type of tire, not to mention assuming a high rpm clutch drop would yield the results the OP is looking for. Sure, if he hooks, great, but the life expectancy of his 10-bolt will be drastically stinted.
If you want to hook safely and reliably, go with a full slick behind a 12-bolt, 9" or S60. Until then you're going to have to experiment with your current setup since every car/driver varies.
