Which is why everybody either keeps the LT1 or goes LS) Somebody clarify this.
May be state specific as you can do this in texas. I have a 1975 sbc block in a 1979 jeep.

so....... a few things to think about
If you really want to do a 434 there are a couple ways to do it.
1. start with a Dart shp block. standard deck height and cam tunnel. You will need a .900 base circle cam and you will be able to get around .660-.680 lift before your cam comes in contact with the rods.
2. Start with a Dart Iron eagle block with raised cam tunnel and taller deck.
This is the expensive way because of all the special parts, but doesn't limit you nearly as much.

Either way, if you are using 23 degree heads it's easy to get 600 hp at the engine, not so much as 600 to the tire. 700 at the engine is very possible but again gets into specialized parts and gets alot more expensive, more rpm, more compression, more tear downs. etc.

Think about stepping up to a 15 or 18 degree head if you really want to make 700 easier to get to. Whatever the HP number you get, your going to have a huge smile on your face from the torque of the big motor. It lets you know its there. Hope this helps a little. I could go on for ever on this, I have this conversation at least twice a day.
