To the OP: I had the same issues. I ended up using three self tapping screws in it to hold it in place.

You are talking about the K&N FIPK kit, right (non-ram air SS/WS6 car)?

On my old 383 z28 I had a very similar issue as I tried to install the filter on the intake once it go through the small hole. Got sick of dealing with that so I cut the whole bigger and go the filter on very good. So basically when working on the car I had the set up to the point where I would disconnect a few sensors and the intake elbow to TB clamp and comes off as one unit.

Very useful when trying to work on the car often.

I've been waiting for the day this happens to mine, seems like it could fall off easily. Still hasn't after three years tho.

Mine fell off years ago. Hasn't happened since though, takes some extra time but I make sure its over the tube now and use a 10mm socket to tighten the clamp instead of a screwdriver.

I had the same problem in my 97. My motor mounts were worn out and the drivers side of the engine would raise up when you revved it so I think that pulled it off. I replaced the motor mounts and havent had a problem since. But the self tapping screw isnt a bad idea! I will keep that in mind if it happens again

When i put a K&N cai on my 96 trans am it seemed like the filter wasnt very secure on the tubing, and it did indeed fall of but not when i was driving luckily. I just wrestled it back on there, doing a lot of excessive pushing and what not and then tightned the Sh*t outta the clamp. Hasn't come off again
