Installing engine through the top. How much can be bolted on?
#23
Got the engine in today. Had to take the balancer off going in through the top. Was one long *** day. Did it mostly by myself. I'm praying to God that not only does it start up, but there are no leaks because you can bet your *** I am never doing this again. And I'm hoping by tilting the engine forward underneath the oil pan with a jack and a 2x6 that I didn't dick with the pickup tube clearance.
Oh, and I broke my mechanics engine lift pushing it back to his shop. Broke the dolly wheel right off.
This day was full of suck. No pics of the event. Pics were the last thing on my mind.

I installed mine last week. I had bolted everything onto the engine with the exception of:
Power steering pulley, which I left in the engine bay totally connected.
Passenger side bracket
AC compressor
Motor mounts
Intake
I had everything from the oil pan to the valve covers, and everything on the front of the motor and headers.
I also just used a chain bolted to the rear cylinder head intake bolt in the far back on the drivers side, and the forward most bolt on the passenger side head.
The engine went in but it takes two people. One to control the picker, and another to finaggle the motor into place. Once it's dropped down, I put a jack under the trans and pushed the motor into the transmission.
It was very simple and I'd have to say the bottom has to be over rated. For how easy this was, I can't imagine dropping the k member, disconnecting my brake lines and jacking my car up over it. Just hardly seems worth it for how easy this method was. I guess it's cause I had a hand.

Ive put my motor in and out like 5 times and i have NEVER taken the balancer off. the motor will go in sideways and you can turn it once it's in the engine bay. happy hooker will make **** alot easier. I did mine with a plate attached to my single plane intake tho.....

This is how mine came out.....took a little time but it was fairly easy overall.
I took the nose and fenders off so I wouldn't damage anything and it made things much simpler.
