Default Is there a difference?

Well, I've decided to quit messing around with the motor in my recently purchased 97 Z28. Oil leaks I cant get rid of (front cover, oil pan etc), and little issues that are just pissing me off. Previous owner did it .40 over, and a mild comp cam. Runs pretty good, but those issues keep bothering me and im not really sure how well it was put together.

What I've decided to do is pull the engine out of my old 94 Z (88k original miles) and do a rebuild on it. Im thinking .30 over and a nice streetable head and cam, 3.73 n call it a day. The 97 already has long tubes and cat less y pipe so that will work fine.

My question is, is there a difference in the motors from 94 to 97? What am I gonna need to transfer over from the 97 or from the 94 to make sure its gonna work fine.

thanks

Timing cover, opti, CPS reluctor, damper hub, knock sensors.

I would not bother boring an 88K mile engine unless it is damaged, or you need forged pistons.

forged or Hypereutectic? Is there a difference in reliability on either? Car will be mainly a street car, with some track outings. (but do want *****)

This car shares a lot in common with mine BUT his is more track oriented and dialed in and mine is more street.

Power comes from airflow, 100% of the air coming and going goes through the heads controlled by the cam.
You want more power you spend money on the topend till you exceed the capabilities of the bottomend.

Makes sense... So what can I do to the bottom end to give it a "fresh up"? Rebuild kit with new rings, pistons, rods, bearing, seals? Stock bore forged or hyp?

Do a compression test. This will tell you if you need to fresh it up or not.

Well, I just figure the motor is gonna be out so i might as well do a rebuild. 88k miles isnt exactly low miles.
The only issue I had with that 94 motor was that steel line that flows water behind the motor got corroded and it broke so it would wanna over heat. I never actually let it over heat. I had run out of cash back then to keep working on the car so it sat for about 2 years.
