Ironoutlaw
Fiberglass Hood?
I agree on the driveshaft
Can you please post a video of a v8 with a ypipe and a single bullet. I tried YouTube but no luck.. I wonder what that would sound like?

ZFREIE
yea that's true but I like to hear all opinions. But your right weight is weight and its not really a show car so I wont miss my panels ... I do plan on painting my interior Matt black to take away from the ugliness I guess...

Yes, fiberglass hood. Im not sure which one weighs the least though. And I dont have a vid of a dumped exhaust but Im sure theres lots of them on youtube. Im running a full exhaust because Im not concerned with weight right now.

What about going with an electric water pump and taking off the fog lights along with that center section.

Im not trying to be a dick, but you just ripped out your whole interior. Im sure the piping and catback weigh more than your plastic and carpet. I wouldnt worry about how it sounds and just rip it out. Its gonna be loud and probably raspy down low and scream nicely up high.

My car is like yours but with more of the dash out, a coupe with no pw pl, ac removed, all seats but driver removed, carpet removed, rubber under the dash gone, front sway bar removed and it weighed 3070 without me in it. I still have the heater box with fan and heater core, and the heavy stock power drivers seat, bumper supports, full catback with cutout, and no aftermarket lighter suspension or body panels. You can do it but at about 2900lbs you have to either start cutting or break out the wallet for lightweight ****.

It was 3070lbs at this point, since then Ive taken out the speakers and head unit, door panels, and front sway bar. If you make yours look like mine, plus take out the bumper supports, heater box, catback, and put a lighter driver seat in you will be close to your goal of 2900lbs.

A cheaper way to put in a lighter driver seat is to take the track off of the passenger seat and put it on the driver seat, the power driver seat adds around 12lbs I hear. Scraping the glue off the floor takes some out, and that big black mat under the dash is heavy as ****. Carpet was at least 35lbs. Dash and everything is pretty heavy too with all the ducting, especially the heavy metal piece that goes where your knees go below the column. Passenger airbag is heavy too.

A way to make it look less shitty with all of the panels and carpet out is to get some rolls of cheap fabric from walmart, and just stick it on every surface of the interior where there is no cover. Someone on here or tech did it and it looked really nice, but you need to put in floor mats because the material is so thin your feet will tear it up.

Dont do an LS1 aluminum driveshaft, they are weaker than the stock steel one and not worth it unless its just a street car. Fiberglass hood is $500, lightweight wheels with tires is easily $1000, tubular suspension is $800. All that stuff is nice, but thats EXPENSIVE. From the factory curb weight of ~3400 on these cars, Ive dropped over 300lbs and havnt spent a dime, and there is no way that wheels, a hood, and suspension would have saved that much. A car that weighs less will be faster, on or off the track.

That rear hatch is going to kill you weight reduction. Replace.it with a carbon fiber one.from.chase and lexan it. Save 100lbs right there. Everything inside doors got to go. And where is your kid sitting? There is no back seat or seat belts. Time to move on is it a race car or what. Remove the passanger side air bag, if your getting a hood go pin on and remove the hinges and cut off the bump stop brackets. You can also remove the latch and bracket for it.

a few more things that you'll have to drop some cash on- plastic fuel tank, lexan windows n hatch(and I think they make a DOT legal windshield now too), lithium battery, and theres a sponsor on here who makes CF door panels.. strano springs are lighter weight, alum flywheel, and all that CM tubular suspension parts

Dude, $1000 for a rear hatch and lexan for only 100lbs, that's $1000 for .1 off your 1/4 mile that is NOT worth it this early in the game. Your better off spending the $1000 on a cam kit and gaining a full second.

He said he is nervous about going to the track. I hope he isnt street racing if he is nervous from a safe controled event. If you go to a open test and tune there will be alot of slower cars than urs. Should have went full weight then after ur gut job and post the times.

No I didn't say nervous ... I'm trying to imply I want weight reduction first ... then my rear. Followed by h/c .... I will not take my car to the track as it sits that's embarrassing .... that was the point I was trying to make.. without a new rearend I'm not visiting the track...

I don't street race and I don't do donuts... I'm just trying to get this car as light as possible...

As for my kid there is a belt that has hinges that came with his recaro and it hooks perfectly to were the seat belts were located ... its a clip on seatbelt dope design too
