Thanks for the advice bud, I figured I would take a beating considering that ls1 cars go for about that right now. I will probably hold on to it and work on putting a FI block together over the next year

Like I said engine wise all you need is pistons and someone will buy your used NA ones at that low mileage. IMO you will be money ahead to do that rather than start a new shortblock

Agreed 100%. Some new -16cc pistons fuel upgrades and some E85 would make that car fly. You have a great foundation to start already.

Am I missing something on the piston swap advice? I figure swapping pistons has pretty much the same cost as building a new shortblock. The only thing you are not buying is crank/rods, but everything else you'd need. rebalance, bearings, assembly, etc... so at that point what is the savings, maybe 1k from doing a complete shortblock?

Might need a light hone, but not a full overbore, you wont need the 4-bolt conversion or main caps, wont need a main hone, wont need to buy all the fasteners over again, wont need to redeck the block. Bearings are cheap and could probably be reused anyway.

Selling a used engine you get jack for what you put into it anyway.

If you can't see that then you are clearly missing a whole hell of a lot.

Guys,
I think he wants to do another from scratch and take his time doing so. Taking the current set up out means the car will be down again while all the expensive parts of the build are purchased, blower etc. The car had enough down time with the current build and was a long drawn out process. He can keep driving the car while he builds up the new set up. I can see where he is coming from and sometimes you do what you have to do. The current set up in the car is a friggin blast to ride around in. I know when we built it it was gonna be a track car. Things change though and a fi set up for driving around and having fun seem to be the way to go. Won't have all the crap of driving a big h/c set up around and have to spin it north of 7500 rpm.
