Default Car died on the highway..help!

I was on my way home from visiting a buddy out at college and about 5 minutes after i left my car started backfiring extremely bad then just died on me. Pulled over and tried to start it up again with no luck. After a few tries i got it started thought all was well and then it started backfiring and died again. I'm at a loss here. I'm hoping its not the dreaded optispark but i don't know what kind of symptoms you get when that goes out. Ran like a champ the 300 miles out there and sadly got towed the 300 miles back home. Any help is appreciated thanks!

It wasn't a cheap tow by any means haha. Okay car details. I have a 1995 t/a mods are CIA longtubes pipe dumped mufflers. 145k on the clock. The ses light was flashing on and off randomly on the drive there but no loss in performance. Haven't had a chance to check fuel pressure yet. Studying was more important yesterday then working on the car

flashing SES while driving, along with back fire... usually random multiple missfire... bad coil, ICM, or opti... can't know without testing. though, you could be lucky and something could be loose or not connected all the way.
