Puzzling LT1 problem Also posted this in maintenance but wasn't sure how many LT1 guys troll there...
Posting this from my phone so please excuse grammatical errors I have a problem which is completely sporatic where my car seems to be cutting out. And as it does it my gauges both rpm and speedo drop in sync with the stutter,as well as my service engine light flashing in tune with it but not staying on. Now if I shut off the car and turn the key forward my fuel pump will prime in sync with the service light flashing. And it wont stop....its like im turning the key on and off. I was thinking opti but it pulses with just the key turned, so I'm guessing the cutting out is with the fuel pump cutting out. Also the "low trac" flashes in tune with the above mentioned problems. 93 LT1, 6 speed thanks and sorry for the wall of text. Thanks

i assume its possible that the pcm could be pooping out....but from the way it sounds to me like a ground is loose....i always start simple because those are usually the things that are over looked.... you can get on www.shbox.com for wire diagrams.... or just go through and start checking the obvious ones....also if it happens once the car gets hot maybe check the icm...do the spacer mod for starters

Yeah thanks...its never under certain conditions, it can drive fine for 2 months and then suddenly do it. And be gone as quick as it started. All the stuttering, gauge dipping, fuel pump dropping, and lights all go in unison when it happens. It just got really bad this morning...thanks a ton for the suggestions.

So another thing to maybe pick someones brain...the previous owner described a similar problem that he had as well that went away when he did some work on his steering assembly... I also recently changed out my ignition cylinder could I perhaps have a pinched wire in the steering somewhere that could cause my symptoms?

I had an ignition switch fail on me. It was as though someone just turned the key off. It was sporadic and typically happened when turning the wheel, lol. It would come right back to life just by wiggling the key. Start the car, and try wiggling the key, also move the tilt wheel up and down as you wiggle the key. If you can get the car to studder by doing that, then your ignition switch could be worn down. Inside of the switch are 5 little contacts with springs behind them, and they slide on copper tracks. Every time you turn the key metal is worn away from the copper tracks. The switch that I took apart had big grooves in the copper which would allow the contacts to bounce around and lose contact killing power for a split second. I got a switch on ebay for around $30ish. Not saying that this is your problem, but it could be.

Based on what the original owner described it happened to him at least once and quit after got into the steering. I just wanted to start on possible simpler solutions. Appreciate all the help and ideas.

Sounds exactly like the problems I had when my ignition switch went bad. The ignition switch distributes power to the entire car. Alot of times, when the ignition switch is going out there will be a bad connection...
